The YISD CEP letter schools are committ to providing healthy lunches and breakfasts for all students. This program is administer through comprehensive educational programs. Comprehensive educational programs (CEP) schools are require to provide healthy meals and snacks to students in grades K-12.
Hundreds of schools participate in the CEP program and provide free or reduced-price lunches to every student. CEP letter schools do not require parents to fill out an application, but they must notify Food and Nutrition Services if they have additional children. Students leaving a CEP letter school will be eligible for 30 days to re-apply for the program. However, students leaving a non-CEP school will not need to re-apply.
The YISD CEP letter schools are eligible to participate in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Children in low-income areas can participate in these programs without paying for meals. These meal programs are designe to improve nutrition standards and make the process easier for low-income children to get the nutrition they need.
