Configure WordPress as an OAuth Client

Before setting up your OAuth login, you need to configure WordPress as an OAuth client. To do so, go to Auth0 dashboard and click on Applications. You will see options to either use Setup Wizard or Manual Setup. Choose Manual Setup. On the next screen, enter your WordPress site’s domain and click on the Manage Application button. You will be asked for your Client ID and Client Secret. Type them in the fields provided and click the Save Changes button.

Authentication is a key part of the WP API. OAuth authentication is a protocol that allows applications to verify the identity of the client before allowing access. WordPress supports OAuth authentication through its OAuth authentication API. This plugin is built on top of the OAuth 1.0a specification and adds a wp_scope parameter. This parameter defines the scope of access the client has to the site. The WP REST API team maintains this plugin.

This standard protocol is a simple, secure way for users to log into an external service. Many popular WordPress plugins use it to allow users to log in with their social media accounts. However, if you’d like to connect the social media accounts of your visitors, you need to configure WordPress as an OAuth client. This will enable your users to log in using their accounts, such as Facebook, Twitter, or Google.
